The exact goal of the event will not be revealed until the day, scheduled for August 8. In choosing the city of Galveston – recently hit by Hurricane Ike – as the location of the 2009 Charrette, RDA will ask participants to unite some of the elements that give the island locale its distinct character.

Site Visit: Saturday, July 18, FishTales in Galveston at 12 pm (call 713-348-4876 to RSVP)
Charrette: Saturday, August 8, Rice School of Architecture from 8 am to 4 pm

Reception: Monday, August 10, Rice School of Architecture at 6 pm

The location of the project will be a hinge point between the downtown district and the beach front. Participants will consider how the Seawall on Galveston Island is an ecosystem. How does it connect Galveston’s community, the Gulf of Mexico, and the experience of the visitor? The charrette will concentrate on an architecture that studies new and existing systems, atmospheres, and interactions surrounding the Seawall.
